Enoshima - Hydrangeas in the Rainy Season
Enoshima island, located just an hour train south of Tokyo, hosts a variety of beautiful hydrangeas during Japan's rainy season.
The island is popular for couples to visit, in order to ring the Love Bell on the island, and put their names on padlocks or Ema's.
There are many cafes and restaurants to enjoy some local foods, and the well known shirasu (whitebait) that the region is known for. Along the way to the island, there is a hill with many restaurants and souvenir shops along the way. There is even a little post office from where you can send off any postcards as needed.
On the island, either take the walking track or the escalator service all the way to the top where you can visit the Samuel Cocking garden and the Sea Candle viewing tower, and the continue to the cave at the rocky shore of the island. On a clear day you can see Mount Fuji from the shore.
There is no fee to visit the island, although the garden, escalator, sea candle and cave all have different entrance fees.
If you have time, there is also a beautiful spa on the island to enjoy.
